In a combination of mixing, mastering and recording Jeff has experience in Rock, Rap, Reggae, Country, Punk, Jazz, Gospel, Blues, Latin, Metal, Hip-Hop, television shows such as Lifetime’s “Army Wives” and Fox Network’s “Audition,” and even book on tape “Mary’s World” by Dick Coté.
Born in Greenville, South Carolina Jeff was encouraged in music early by his father “Big” Jeff Leonard. Jeff was raised setting up and hauling the old equipment that was hauled to hundreds of blues and rock shows around town. By the age of 8 he was playing guitar and taking in Greenville. Jeff started running live sound at the age of 12 for his father’s nightclub The Madd Jammer. By the time he reached the age of 15 recorded his first album in his basement using a pair of tape decks and a worn out sound board to over-dub lyrics and sample sound from horror videos. Throughout high school Jeff was prevalent in the local music scene playing guitar, recording and collaborating with bands.
In 1999, Jeff was working on his degree in television and radio broadcast. However, he started working at Area 51 Studios in the Charleston area where he started learning his craft from producer/engineer John Uhrig and started working with Jordan Herschaft. After a two year internship at Area 51 Studios, Jeff helped found Fusion 5 Studios with Jordan and John in its current location in Charleston, South Carolina. There he started to master his craft- a careful balance of digital and analog; with a Harrison 3232B console (famed for recording Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”), Pro Tools HD recording software, and a MCI JH116 24 track 2” tape machine.
